Saturday 2nd August

Fraserburgh Golf Club host the Alcoa 18 hole gents open with tee times available till 2pm. Entry fee is £20 per visitor or £15 per member. The minimum handicap is 9.5 - Call 01346 516616 to reserve a tee time.

A variety show, in aid of local charities, will take place at Peterhead Community Centre Theatreat 7.30pm.  “Oh What a Night” will include singing, dancing and Doric comedy.  Tickets are priced at £6.  For more details call 01779 481197

Monday 4th August

Longside Royal British Legion will hold a candle light vigil at Longside War Memorial from 10.30pm - 11.00pm to remember those who took part in the First World War. A short service will be held and poppy wreaths laid. All are welcome to attend.

The Royal British Legion Ellon is holding a commemorative parade from Ellon Square at 2pm. A wreath will be laid to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One. Later in the afternoon, entertainment themed on WW1 music, songs and poetry will be available to members and guests. This is an event to reflect the mood of the country 100 years ago.

Thursday 7th August

Zanres in Queen Street, Peterhead will donate 100 percent of the day's takings to David Stephen and his 'Just Giving Page'. David Stephen recently underwent a 9 hour operation to remove a brain tumour and is now tirelessly working to raise funds to help patients and staff at ARI ward 205 where he was treated.David will soon climb Ben Nevis, raising further funds for his charity.

Saturday 9th August

Fraserburgh Sea Cadets Car Wash at Fraserburgh Freezing, South Harbour Road from 10.00am - 4.00pm. £3 per car.

Paul Finnie will start to cycle the length and breadth of Scotland from Stranraer to John O'Groats and then Skye to Boddam, a distance of over 750 miles for Macmillan Cancer Support and Mintlaw Boys Club. He hopes to complete the journey in 7 days. You can sponsor Paul or give a donation. Call 01771 622556 for further information.

As part of the 20th Peterhead Harbours Open Day, Derek Cardno, Marine Safety and Training Officer at the Scottish Fisherman's Federation will discuss the exciting opportunities offered by the new modern apprenticeship in sea fishing at the Scottish Maritime Academy at the Lido.

Jimmy Buchan of the Amity 2 and a Peterhead Port Authority Member will give you a talk on future developments of the Peterhead Harbour at the Peterhead Harbours Open Day, prior to the launch of the fish filleting competition at midday. Sunday 10th August

The Sands Bar charity bike run from Fraserburgh to Peterhead, leaving at 10.00am, following cycle tracks along the coast road crossing at Lonmay to Strichen, Maud, Mintlaw, Longside and onto Peterhead. All proceeds will go to Kirkburn Court, Peterhead and if you have any connection to Kirkburn Court, please come along and support this really good cause. Transport for cycles has been arranged. Broch Bike Fest is being held at the Fraserburgh Leisure Centre with all proceedings going to the charity "Isla's Dream". There will be a bike show plus trade stands and an autojumble. Then in the evening 4 live rock bands will entertain the public - admission is free, but a donation accepted for the charity. Free camping is available for those who want to stay the night.

A Summer BBQ and Disco with Karaoke will take place at the Peterhead Golf Club from 7.00pm till late. Open to all. Tickets cost £15 each. Call 01779 472149 for additional information.

Ongoing Announcements

The Invercairn Gala takes place from the 3rd to the 9th of August with family fun throughout the week. There's something for everyone from a junior disco, a kids treasure trail, rstrongman competition, it's a knock out competition, bingo, quiz night, a fancy dress parade and live band Splash which is strictly over 16s only. ID required to obtain an over 18s wristband.

Fraserburgh United Reformed Church is holding Summer Teas every Saturday from 10am till 12 noon commencing the 5th of July and ending on the 30th of August. All welcome.

An Art Exhibition by local artist Mike Brown is now on in the Arbuthnot Museum, Peterhead through to 25th August with free entry.

Maggie's Hoosie in Inverallochy opens for the summer season on 16th June right through to 11th September with opening times Monday to Thursday from 2.00pm-4.00pm. Maggie's Hoosie is of both national and local importance and is unique in retaining so much of its original character and is possibly the only one of its kind still existing the the North East. The Grampian Transport Museum in Alford has some exciting new exhibits to view this year. Check out the exhibition to mark the 50th anniversary of the Great Train Robbery with two of the original vehicles used on the night of the robbery on show. There is also a stunning state of the art HGV simulator, using high definition graphics. Grampian Transport Museum - well worth a visit.                       

CLAN - Cancer Link Aberdeen North - offers support through its outreach facilties in Peterhead and Fraserburgh. They are in Fraserburgh at the HUB on a Monday from 10-4pm. Then in Peterhead on a Wedenesday and a Friday at the Hotspot on Kirk Street, Peterhead again from 10-4pm. This is a free service to everyone affected by cancer and provides emotional support, complementary therapies, children and family services and cancer information. The Breastfeeding support group takes place at Peterhead Maternity Unit every Thursday from 1.30pm-3.00pm. This is an informal group/drop in where advice and support are given with many lifelong friendships made. Come along and enjoy the social aspects of the group. The midwives and breastfeeding volunteers extend a warm welcome.

There will be a weekly nightcap at the Fisherman's Mission on Union Street, Peterhead on Sunday at 8pm, as well as a weekly Ladies Guild every Tuesday from 7.15pm.

Choices Fraserburgh is a crisis pregnancy centre where women and their families can go to obtain free, impartial advice following an unplanned pregnancy. Advice and support is also offered following the loss of a baby.
