Friday 22nd May

Fraserburgh Academy are holding a Sports Day for S1 to S3 pupils starting at 9.30 with prize giving at approx 2.50pm. All parents, grandparents and carers are encouraged to come along and cheer on the kids. Refreshments and BBQ (ran by the parent council) will be available with all profits going to the PE Department to buy new sports equipment.

Pitfour School, Newlands Road, Mintlaw Carnival Fun Night from 6.00pm-9.00pm with stalls, bouncy castle, football, netball, raffles, refreshments and more.

Fraserburgh Parkinson’s UK Support Group will hold a Quiz Night at town’s Leisure Centre from 7.30pm.   This fun event will raise money to help fund research into finding a cure.  Entry is £10 per team of four and raffles would be much appreciated.  Contact John or Jennifer Crawford on 01346 516852 for more details.

The Kit Carey Jazz Band will be playing live at the Hopeville Social club in Inverurie from 8pm to 10.30.

Saturday 23rd May

A Coffee Morning in New Deer Public Hall in aid of United Christian Broadcasters. Entry is £2.00 with schoool children admitted free.

Football Gala at Clerkhill School, Peterhead with registration at 11.30am. Other attractions include a barbeque, bottle stall, Beat The Goalie and lots more.

St Andrew's Church, Queen Street, Peterhead Buttery Morning and Soup & Sweet. All welcome.

Martha & Her Country Cousins appearing at Peterhead Masonic Club.

Morag’s Bosom Buddies Relay for Life Team will host an Afternoon Tea from 1.30 – 4.30pm at the Apex Church Hall in Peterhead.  Entry is £5 with the proceeds going Cancer Research UK

Anna Ritchie School in Peterhead will host a Coffee Morning and a Car Boot Sale from 10am – 12 noon.  Car boot spaces are available by calling 01779 473293

A fundraiser for “Eilidh’s Journey Appeal” will be held at Barclay Park Pavilion in Peterhead from 10am – 3pm.  There will be a car boot sale, a toy stall, hand-made keyrings, teas + coffee.  The event is in aid of three year old Eilidh Paterson, who has high-risk neuroblastoma.  Her family is aiming to raise tens of thousands of pounds so they can fly Eilidh to America for treatment, which is unavailable in the UK.  

Sunday 24th May

The Grampian Transport Museum will be showcasing some of the forgotten gems of the motoring world - those with less than 500 examples left. 'How Many Left' will have static displays, public passenger rides, a chronological vehicle parade and auto tests with expert commentry to enjoy! Admission to the event is £5 for adults and under 16s admitted free of charge. Vehicle entries are still being accepted until Monday 18th May. Full info can be found at gtm.org.uk

All Saints Episcopal Church in Strichen will host a four day Art Exhibition between 12 noon and 7pm for the first two days and then from 11am – 4pm.  Entry is free. 

Friday 29th May

A 'Deal or No Deal' evening will take place in the Buchanhaven Heats Football Club Social club, followed by an auction and disco from 7.30pm. Ellon & District Art Group celebrates its Silver Jubilee with an Art Exhibition in the Upper Room, Kirk Centre, Station Road, Ellon  today and tomorrow. As well as the very best of members paintings and crafts on display, guest artists Eddie Swan and Frank Stephen will be exhibiting. Entry is free.

Saturday 30th May

The Fraserburgh Sea Cadets are hosting a Fun Day at Sandhaven Harbour from 10am – 4pm.  The event will include Speed & Rowing Boat Rides, Stalls, Homebakes, Raffles, Car-boot Sale, Bouncy Castles, Zorb Balls and a Barbeque. 

A buttery morning will be hosted by the Foundation Church (next to Waves Radio) from 10.30 am to 12 noon and followed by a soup and sandwich from 12 til l2pm. Proceeds will go to raise money for Relay For Life.

Peterhead SNP Summer Fair and Soup & Sweet will be held at the Public Hall, Longhaven from 10am – 1.30pm.  To book a stall, contact 01779 473557.

The Willowbank Plant Sale will be held at the Willowbank Day Service, Glendaveny, Peterhead from 8.30am – 12noon.  There will be teas, coffees, butteries and scones as well as various stalls.  The car boot sale is £7 per car and tables are not provided.  Contact 01779 838301 for further information. 

Lodge Ugie 939 will hold a Prize Bingo night at the Buchan Indoor Bowling Club in Mintlaw from 7pm with eyes down at 7.30pm.   A disco will follow from 10pm till late.  Funds raised will be distributed to local groups, charities and organisations.

Sunday 31st May

A Doric Service will take place in the Rosehearty Church at 3.00pm. The service will be led by Dorothy Mair.

A ‘Story Ceilidh’ will be held at the New Pitsligo Village Hall on Sunday 31st May at 7.30pm. It will be a relaxed performance of traditional Scottish stories, accompanied by original live music. Tickets are £9 for adults and £7 for concession, and are available from Londis, by calling 01771 653720, or through neatshows.org.uk

Saturday 6th June

Fraserburgh Lifeboat Station open day from 11.00am - 3.30pm. There will be entertainment throughout the day and the Lifeboat will be open to have a look around.

Boddam Junior Model Yachting Club annual racing at the Den Dam at 2.00pm, weather permitting. Boats' names and sizes along with children's names and ages must be given to any Committee Member of call George Cordiner on 01779 471452 before Wednesday 3rd June.

Sunday 7th June

The Banff & Buchan SANDS Group annual Balloon Release at Aden Park, Mintlaw at 11.00am. After the release, everyone is invited to Mintlaw Bowling Club for refreshments and a chat.

Saturday 27th June

Cheers Cafe Bar in Fraserburgh is having a big fundrasing event to raise money for Grampians Women's Aid (Domestic Abuse) and the early pregnancy unit at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. There's a charity auction and raffle, stalls and kids face painting.

 

Ongoing Announcements

The annual Old Parish Church Thrift Shop starts on Monday 11th May and runs from monday to Friday from 9.30am to 1pm for 3 weeks. Coffees and teas will be served during opening hours.

The Banff and Buchan Counselling Service is urgently looking for volunteers and will soon start a new training programme for people who would like to get involved.  BBCS would like to hear from anyone who:

*can be a trusted and confidential listener

*wants to give back to the community in an inspiring and rewarding way

*enjoy and feel enthusiastic about working with individuals aged 18 and over

*can communicate clearly without judgement

Buchanhaven Heritage Centre would like to create an interior of a shop from the 50's similar to Chipper Elsie which once traded in the Buchanhaven area. The intention is to have a weekend display once ready in addition to a great event and to bring back memories to many. If anyone has items that would help stock a shop from that period please get in touch via heritage1850@btinternet.com or call 472872.

Martin Bagshaw from Peterhead will cycle to all Scottish Football League Grounds in July this year to raise money for the charity SANDS. A journey of 550 miles. This charity supports anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby before, during and shortly after birth. Please donate online through the ‘Just Giving’ page.

The family of 13 year old Elysha Robertson in Fraserburgh have set up a petition in a bid to secure lifesaving treatment for her. Elysha has been diagnosed with the rare condition BROWN-VIALETTO-VAN LAERE SYNDROME and requires 24 hour care, and the family want the health board to carry out Intravenous Immunoglobulin Therapy.
