PETERHEAD SCOTTISH WEEK

Peterhead Scottish Week are delighted to be working with Waves Radio to make the 2008 event bigger and better.  But we need your help.  We are looking for people to come and help organise the week – no matter how much or little help you can give we want to hear from you. Meetings are held on the first Monday of every month at the Waterside Inn, Peterhead at 7.30 pm.  If you want to help us keep this great local event alive, come along and join us where you will be made very welcome..

Thursday 8th May

Peterhead and District Floral Art Club are holding their open evening at the Palace Hotel from 7.30pm with guest demonstrator Mr John Dalton "Thats entertainment."  Entry is £5, which includes sandwiches and homebakes, and you can pay at the door. 

Friday 9th May

The 24th Annual Gospel Singalong takes place at the Victoria Gospel Hall, Torry, Aberdeen at 7.30pm with guests the Christie Trio.

Saturday 10th May

A Buttery Morning will be held in the public hall Hatton on Saturday 10th May from 10am to 12 noon raffles will be on sale and tickets priced at £2 per person available at the door. This is part of Cruden Christian Aid Week which takes place from the 11th to 17th May. A house to house collection will take place during the week in the Cruden Parish involving 35 collectors.

The New Deer Agricultural Association are holding a Barn Dance in the New Deer Show Park with dancing to Nite Lite Disco from 9pm till late. Admission at door.

The Dales Park School in Peterhead are holding a May Fayre from 11am to 3pm. There's a football tournament, bouncy castle and various stalls along with a car boot sale. To book a boot space call 01779 472482. Cost £ 5 if pre-booked or £ 7.50 on the day. All welcome. Lots of fun guaranteed.

Team Tanzania Buttery Morning and Car Boot Sale in aid of the Matumaini School of Hope takes place at the Salvation Army, Windmill Street, Peterhead from 10.00am - 12 noon. Please call 01346 516203 after 6.00pm for further information or to book a table.

Sunday 11th May

The Alford Valley Railway May Fayre takes place from 11.00am - 4.30pm with train trips, BBQ, children's craft activity, bouncy castle etc. Entry is £1.00 for children and £2.50 for adults with a small fee for the craft activity to cover the cost of materials. Visit alfordvalleyrailway.org.uk.

Friday 16th May

The Blue Light Festival takes place in Fraserburgh over the next 4 days with various events to entertain all the family including a quiz night, Lifeboat & Helicopter display, Family Fun day and a Bingo night.

Saturday 17th May

Peterhead Scottish Week Buchan Queen Supper Dance at the Waterside Inn at 7.00pm. Tickets, priced at £18.00, are available from the Waterside Inn. Strictly over 18's only.

 

Fraserburgh Initiative for Sports, Swimming & Health (FISSH) is holding a buttery morning in the town's St Andrews Hall from 10am - 11.30am.  Entry is £1.50 and you can pay at the door. 

Naku-penda - stop the suffering and spread the love at the Rescue Hall, Prince Street, Peterhead with The Form, The Seasons and Velvet Audio.

Entry is £3.00 at the door with all proceeds going to M-Begala Girls Home, Tanzania.

A bedding plant,shrub sale,coffee and lunch at Maud Community Services Centre,the old mart site. 10am to 3pm with all profits going to Maud village Christmas Lights Appeal.

Sunday 18th May

There'll be a buttery morning in aid of the Sandhaven and Pitullie Community Hall refurbishment. It takes place at the Community Hall on Saturday 17th May, between 10 and 12. Admission is £1.50 for adults and 50p for kids. For further info call 01346 515696

 

Banff & Buchan Advanced Motorists meet on the second Thursday of every month from March to November in the Myrus Pavilion Macduff. Today members will be attending the Blue Light Festival at Fraserburgh Leisure Centre. Pop along and see the Mobile Display Unit & help improve road safety.

Ongoing Events

The Fraserburgh Heritage Centre at Kinnaird Head is now open for the new season. Many of the child friendly exhibits are still available for youngsters to enjoy along with the new John Ross display. Genuine Zulu goods are now on sale at the shop. Further information available by calling 01346 512888.

FISSH  (Fraserburgh area Initiative for Swimming Sport and Health) are looking for people in the community who can assist in any way with one of the committees in fund raising etc. This is a very active committee but would like more people in the community to be part of the committee groups. Anyone interested in returning to learning, training or employment can come along to the community flat at 61 Slains Court, Peterhead every Thursday from 9.30 am until 11.30 am for free, confidential, practical help and advice on adult literacy and numeracy, childcare, setting and moving towards personal goals and employment.  Drop in for a cuppa and a chat.

Fraserburgh Air Cadets are recruiting cadets and staff now.  Males and females aged between 13 and 17 can join.  Visit the cadet hut at King Edward Street Lane on Mondays and Fridays between 7 until 9 pm.  There are various activities and a uniform is provided free.  Call Donna on 01346 517996 for further information.

Petsearch UK is a charity aiming at reuniting lost pets with their owners. They don't take in animals but act as pet detectives tracing lost animals. If anyone has lost or had a pet stolen they can call 0121 743 7389.

Peterhead boxing club is offering free boxing lessons to under 16s on a Tuesday and Thursday night from 7pm at their Seagate gym. Youngsters can release their agression in a controlled manner and at the same time be taught self discipline.Telephone 07732-207137.

How would you like to fly a plane? How would you like to take your first steps to being a future pilot? Are you aged between 13 and 17? Well come down to the 1295 Peterhead Squadron and join the Air Training Corps. They meet every Monday and Friday evening from 7.15 pm until 9.30 pm at the TA Centre in Catto Drive.
